About this opportunity
What it is
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK funds full-time PhD study at UK universities for candidates from least developed and lower-middle-income Commonwealth countries, for people who could not otherwise afford it.
What it covers
- Approved return airfare from your home country to the UK
- Full tuition fees
- A living stipend of £1,712 per month, or £2,000 per month in the London metropolitan area
- Study travel grants and fieldwork provision
- Family allowances where applicable
How to apply
Applications are not accepted directly. You must be nominated through a national nominating agency or an eligible NGO, and the application is submitted on CSC Central at portal.csccentralonline.org.uk. Nominating agencies set their own earlier internal deadlines — contact yours well before October.
Note on eligibility
The PhD scheme has a narrower country list than the Master's scheme — 17 countries. Cameroon is not on it. Check the country field on this card first.
Closes Tuesday 20 October 2026 at 16:00 BST.
