Yenching Academy Master's, Peking University

The Yenching Academy runs a one-year master's in China Studies at Peking University in Beijing, taught in English. Scholars pick one of six tracks covering economics and management, history and archaeology, law and society, literature and culture, philosophy and religion, or politics and international relations.

Roughly 120 students enrol each year and about three-quarters come from outside China, so a Cameroonian applicant is competing in a genuinely international pool rather than for a small country quota.

There is no separate scholarship form. Every admitted scholar receives the fellowship, which covers tuition, a room, a monthly stipend, one return flight and the cost of field study trips.

You need a bachelor's degree in any subject, or to be in your final year with the certificate in hand by August.

The English requirement is real and is where many African applicants are caught out: IELTS 7.0, TOEFL iBT 100 or an accepted equivalent, and the test must have been sat after 1 September 2025. An older score will not be accepted, so check the date on yours before you start.

Applications close on 30 November 2026 at 9am Beijing time, which is 1am in Cameroon on the same day.
