About this opportunity
What it is
The Nordic Africa Institute in Uppsala funds a one-month research stay at the institute for scholars working on Africa within the social sciences and humanities. Scholars get a desk, a computer and access to the institute's Africa library and research community.
What it covers
- Travel to and from Uppsala (least expensive fare)
- Free accommodation in Uppsala
- A daily subsistence allowance of SEK 450
- Office workspace with desk and computer
Health insurance is not included.
Who it is for
Citizenship is unrestricted, but you must be based at a university or research centre in Sweden, Finland, Denmark or Iceland. Master's students, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers and mid-career researchers are all eligible. Your work must be Africa-oriented and within the social sciences or humanities.
What to submit
A current CV, a 3–5 page research project outline, a one-page work plan specific to the stay, and a signed letter of support from your supervisor or head of department. Incomplete applications are not considered.
Successful applicants are notified by late November 2026.
